History of the Association
Honoring all who have served with the 366th, from the Hun Hunters of WWII to today's Gunfighters. The 366th Fighter Group Association was formed in 1988 by a group of World War II veterans with a desire to share their mutual experiences. Various members had occasionally met each other at reunions of other organizations, 9th AF Association, P47 pilots Association, etc. throughout the years and felt that a get-together of the "Old 366th" was in order. At the 1993 reunion, the first veteran of the Vietnam War attended followed by eleven others at the 1995 reunion. In 2012 the Fighter Group Association dropped Group from the name to become the 366th Fighter Association. This was done to emphasize that Association membership was open to anyone having served, at any time, with the 366th.
Association membership is comprised of nearly equal numbers of enlisted and officer personnel.
The purpose of the Association is to preserve the history, heritage and traditions of the 366th Fighter Group, its successor (Fighter Bomber Wing, Tactical Fighter Wing, Wing, Fighter Wing, etc) and subordinate organizations and to promote camaraderie and communication amidst veterans, members, their families and descendants.
To achieve this goal we hold annual reunions at various cities around the country generally on a three-year rotating cycle (eastern, central and western) to enable our members in that section of the country easier access. We maintain this web site. We publish a newsletter, the Association "Team Letter", to keep our members informed of various events on a more timely basis. We raised funds for, and placed, two monuments at the National Museum of the US Air Force. The first was to honor the 366th WWII Era Veterans , the second to honor Vietnam Era Veterans. The Association also has an unofficial auxiliary, our "Wingmates", for our spouses who have supported us through thick and thin.

The 366th Fighter Association logo depicts the P-47D Thunderbolt, "the Jug" which the 366th Fighter Group flew in World War II. It is surrounded by other primary aircraft the descendant organizations have flown in the years since. Those being the F-84F, F-84H, F-86, F-4C/D/E, F-111A/F, F-15C/E and F-16.

Through the years various patches have adorned uniforms of the 366th. The most widely recognized of those likely being the, 'Phantom', Gunfighter patch of the Vietnam era. However, though many have been displayed only two have ever been registered and recognized by the Air Force Historical Research Agency. Displayed on the right is the official emblem of the 366th. The emblem design reflects the six campaign streamers and distinguished unit citations earned by the 366th Fighter Group in WWII. It displays a small escutcheon, a small inner shield that contains six crosses. Across the bottom of the emblem is the Latin phrase AUDENTES FORTUNA JUVAT which, in English, translates to Fortune Favors The Bold; the motto of the 366th.
